Wayne Steinkopf -- Chief Cake Artist & Instructor
With no formal pastry training and only a background in auto body repair, Wayne’s career in cake decorating began in 1988 at a grocery store! Twenty years later, after several jobs at commercial bakeries, Wayne grew tired of the artistic limitations of working for someone else and decided to start his own business. With a little help from his friend Chuck, Wayne created Swank Cake Design, a cake studio that specialized in chic designs and used state-of-the-art decorating techniques. In 2011, Wayne expanded the business to include cake decorating classes, which were very well received by the national and international cake communities.
Chuck Hamilton -- Studio Manager & Webmaster
(and occasional instructor)
In the late 1990s, Chuck worked as an assistant to one of America's leading commercial photographers. Chuck's job description soon changed with the times, as he went on to work in digital imaging and web design. In 2008, finding himself suddenly part of a new and unknown business (Swank), Chuck used his imaging and marketing skills to aggressively promote Swank Cake Design regionally and nationally. After 2 years of hard work, the tiny cake studio emerged into one of the top wedding cake businesses in North Carolina. In 2011, when Swank Cake Design added cake classes to their business, Chuck took on the task of manufacturing the custom silicone molds that students use during class. He also developed and teaches a class on working with isomalt.
